On Friday, April 7 at around 4 p.m., a Seaford woman was trying to access Amazon Prime on her television when an error message popped up on the screen, according to Nassau County police.

The message read that the woman’s Amazon Prime account had been locked, and instructed her to call 1-848-246-1786.

After calling the number, she was instructed that she needed to download the AnyDesk app in order to unlock her Amazon account.

Police said the victim was also instructed to enable the “Quick Pay” feature on her Capital One checking account and use Zelle to make multiple payments to a specific bank account.

Once the woman sent a total of $1,489, she became suspicious and reportedly refused to send more money.

The investigation is ongoing, Nassau County police said.

This is the second scam Nassau County has seen in the span of a couple of days which has involved the app AnyDesk. A similar scheme was reported to Nassau police Thursday, April 6, where a woman lost $4,000.

The app allows users to remotely access another person’s device.

Detectives at NCPD are urging the community to be alert for potential scams and to remind vulnerable friends and family members about potential frauds.

Anyone with information about the Apple Support incident is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911.

All calls will remain anonymous.
